Frequently Asked Questions

Q. does my child have to wear uniform?

A. No, they do not have to wear a uniform (although we strongly recommend it!) If you choose not to purchase playschool uniform, please ensure your child comes in clothes suitable for activities which may involve paint, playdough and water as we cannot guarantee that all marks will come out. Uniform is available to order here.

Q. what shoes should my child wear at playschool?

A. Your child will need a pair of NAMED plimsolls/crocs/Velcro trainers and a pair of NAMED wellies. Shoes with laces and open toed shoes are not permitted.

Q. What should i put in my childs lunchbox?

A. Our recommendations for lunchboxes can be found on our Health, Nutrition and Lunch page. We also recommend looking at the ideas for healthy lunchboxes on the Change4Life website.

Q. Is my child ELIGIBLE for funding?

A. For all information regarding local authority and government schemes, please click here.

Q. Who do i speak to about my childs progress?

We believe that for a child to progress, close links between home and setting are essential. When starting SSP, your child will be assigned a key person. The key person will monitor your child’s progress and liaise closely with you to plan the ‘next steps’ in their development. Your key person is there to share achievements from home, discuss progress and talk through any concerns you may have. They will be your main point of contact during your child’s time with us.

Q. Is anyone else involved in my childs learning and development?

Although we have a key person system in place and believe key person bonds are important, children’s interactions are not limited to only their key person or those in the same key group. All staff look out, care for, provide opportunities and support every child in our care. We strongly believe all the children have a sense of belonging as a member of the Stepping Stones Playschool community, not just as a member of their key group. Every child is supported and given the opportunity to learn and thrive by every member of our staff team.
